Good to know
What does 'housing budget' include?
Rent or mortgage plus building fees, utilities and renter's or home insurance. Landlords often look for gross income of around 2.5–3 times the rent, but rules vary.
Why include car costs?
Many people who move downtown sell a car. That money can go to rent without hurting the rest of the budget.
Is the 30% rule right for me?
It's a starting point. High earners can often spend more; households with high childcare or debt costs should spend less. The 'left after' line is the most honest check.
